Why Are All My Office Files Opening Read Only

Cloud Help Desk: Delays to incoming electronic mail:

Hi,

A user is experiencing an odd problem. We accept Office 2010 standard. When the user saves files to a shared network folder, and keeps them open on the computer, after a while they go Read Only, which forces the user to save them in a different name.

I've tried solving information technology by doing the following in options:

1.Disabling Auto Recover and Autosave.

two. Unchecking the "open up email attachments in reading view".

three.Disabling Protected View.

four.Adding the network folder location to Trusted Locations.

The problem still persists though. Will exist glad for any assistance.

Ahhh aye, this is definitely the consequence we ran into then, simply unfortunately I don't have a gear up for it. Nosotros addressed it equally I mentioned in my showtime mail - when a user reported a file was opening as "read just" we had them close it and popped into the file server to close information technology likewise (since it was stuck showing that it was open up by someone). After doing that the user was able to open up the file unremarkably.

Nosotros had a policy that users were supposed to reboot their computers once per twenty-four hours, and suggested to practise then at the end of the solar day, to ensure that programs and files were non left open. Anytime a user would complain about a broken file like this, we'd gently remind of the reboot policy. The majority of our users did their daily reboots after awhile which cut down on this effect.

While I left the visitor before any other possible solutions were implemented, ane thing we were talking most was doing forced reboots past GPO at 10pm or so. This would be late enough that any people working remotely wouldn't be affected, merely would still make certain that any open files would exist closed before they got stuck as read-only.

On the file server yous should exist able to bank check which files are being opened currently. I recall information technology's in the task manager if I remember correctly. From in that location you can close out of the file that's stuck.

Is this happening to other users or only one specific user? How long is the document beingness kept open? Is it becoming Read-Only to them while it'due south open, or is it Read-Merely the adjacent time that user opens it?

Information technology becomes read just while it is open. So far nosotros had this result with only one user.

I don't want to close the file, simply wanted the user to be able to save the changes she fabricated information technology the file without having to save information technology in a unlike name.

It seems the problem occurs also when the files are stored locally on the figurer, so information technology's non a network issue. Something more specific with this estimator or function. Any other advices?

Y'all accept it narrowed down to the computer, so now you lot have to figure out if its Office or if its her user profile. Two ways to go nearly this: blast away and rebuild her profile (or attempt with a dissimilar users contour) or reinstall Office. Likely, only one of those will ready the event.

And then a couple troubleshooting steps I'd effort.

First, accept her log on with her contour on a different computer. Open the file both locally and off the network and see if the consequence persists.

Side by side accept a different user log onto her reckoner and open the file both locally and from the network.

Too try opening the file, saving equally a new file, then take her try opening the new file on her pc, someone else'south, and have someone try on hers (to rule out a partially corrupt document).

If information technology's not a confidential certificate, can you PM information technology to me or share here? Either way, I have some settings ideas I'll play effectually with when I become to work. I'll edit this post when I accept any settings suggestions to attempt.

Thanks for all the replies. Seems this doesn't happen locally (equally for as the user tried), and the problem also happened with my word certificate when i  stored it in the network and kept information technology open up while i was away from the pc for the weekend (the computer was in sleep mode).

There is a microsoft hotfix + registry edit that might set up this (https://support.microsoft.com/en-the states/kb/2626998). I'll give it a endeavour and let you know if it works.

Ahhh yes, this is definitely the event we ran into then, but unfortunately I don't accept a fix for it. Nosotros addressed it as I mentioned in my first post - when a user reported a file was opening equally "read only" we had them close it and popped into the file server to shut it as well (since it was stuck showing that information technology was open up by someone). After doing that the user was able to open up the file normally.

We had a policy that users were supposed to reboot their computers once per mean solar day, and suggested to do so at the stop of the solar day, to ensure that programs and files were non left open. Anytime a user would complain most a broken file like this, we'd gently remind of the reboot policy. The bulk of our users did their daily reboots afterward awhile which cutting down on this effect.

While I left the visitor earlier any other possible solutions were implemented, one thing we were talking about was doing forced reboots past GPO at 10pm or and so. This would be late enough that whatsoever people working remotely wouldn't be affected, but would still make sure that whatever open files would be closed before they got stuck as read-merely.

I take had this outcome on a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga fifteen for over a yr.  It is running Windows ten.

I call up I have it working now.  Here are the steps I accept tried:

Updated lenovo network drivers

Reset profile

Deleted temp folders

Repaired Office

Fabricated certain preview pane was off

Turned off autorecovery in word and excel

Turn UAC off

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Organisation
  • Under that key create a DWORD value named:
  • EnableLinkedConnections
  • And set information technology to 1

Reverted to Driver Version 18.32.0.5 for Intel End Peak 7265/7265B Wireless Lan (this or the Reg primal above are the last 2 things I did - hopefully one of them was the answer.)

JaxonWow

I had similar issue with Lenovo X260 running Windows 10 Pro 64 chip.

Uninstalled BitDefender.

Updated Intel WIFI driver from Lenovo website.

Repaired Part 365 installation.

Rebooted.

Issue at present resolved.
